And it turns out that Gen Z are really taking the reins here, and maybe a few of us considered “Gen Z-adjacent”, too. Any mid-90s babies here who feel like they don’t quite fit into any generation? Yep, me too!

From community fitness and sleep improvements to mindful movement, nutrition with purpose, and digital wellbeing resets, those currently in their 20s are shaping what “wellness for life” looks like in the UK and beyond.

Gen Z want to do wellness together. Group fitness, park runs and even dance workouts are replacing solo sessions with friend-fuelled routines.

So much so, that Strava has dubbed run clubs “the new nightclubs”, where Gen Z are four times more likely to meet people than in bars.

New data via Ocado suggests that three in five Gen Z drinkers consider trading booze for functional, wellness-focused drinks at social occasions – think kombucha, kefir and matcha.

This trend shows up in how Gen Z tailors their days, too: more water, fewer heavy nights, and a stronger focus on clear, intentional choices that support sleep, mood and energy.

3. Nutrition and eating for health goals

Gen Z are moving away from fad dieting and towards purposeful nutrition. 

In practice, this looks like eating with specific health goals like better gut health, immunity, or energy.

This functional approach shows up all over social media, where food prep, nutrient-dense meals and DIY recipes are shared with context. Not as “restrictive diets” but as sustainable lifestyle habits.

One study by Skin Health Alliance found that 65% of Gen Z adults frequently use sunscreen, and nearly three quarters are influenced to buy skincare products by social media.

Unplugging isn’t niche anymore. Numbers via Medium suggest that 40% of Gen Z are using apps like Forest or phone timers to stop the scroll, and 50% are actually curating their feeds to prioritise helpful, positive content and mental wellbeing.
