Embarking on the journey of IVF can be difficult and overwhelming – whether it’s your first or fifth or tenth cycle. We’ve been there, and we feel you.

To help you feel that bit more supported, we’ve compiled these essential tips to help you advocate for yourself during IVF, together with the lovely Lauren Haring – registered fertility nurse, IVF coach and founder of Embrace Fertility.

Along the milestones of your journey, it’s crucial to have the right support system in place. And this starts with you, as the patient, client and parent-to-be. Advocating for yourself in a medical setting – and knowing the usual blockers – is a vital part of getting in place the care and treatment which aligns with your goals, and values.

3 tips to advocate for yourself during IVF

“Learning to advocate for yourself during IVF treatment is one of the best ways to regain some control of your fertility story and ensure you’re receiving both the care and respect you deserve.

1.  Do your research in advance

Take notes and empower yourself with as much info as possible.

2. Write down your questions

Sometimes nerves can get the better of you, or you simply forget something important (and don’t ever feel like you’re asking too many questions, this is too important!)

3. Nobody knows your body better

If you’re unsure about how you’re feeling or a symptom you’re having, it’s your right to discuss your concerns directly with your medical team.”

Navigating milestones during your IVF journey

“It’s important to appreciate all of your hard work and honor each milestone you make it through during IVF treatment.

You can turn moments of anxiety and IVF dread into a positive and empowering experience with IVF milestone cards. They are an amazing way of documenting your journey from your initial consultation, monitoring visits, your first injection to your egg retrieval, embryo transfer and pregnancy test day.”

Lauren Haring has created beautiful cards to inspire and celebrate every milestone – and provide much-needed comfort during times of uncertainty.
