How I finally managed to drink 2L of water a day (Hint – better taste really helps)
We’ll be the first to admit it – the idea of staying on top of our water intake can feel like a little bit of a chore for many of us here at TRB HQ.
We all know hydration is so important for our cycle, skin health, during pregnancy and postpartum and pretty much everything else. For reference, the NHS recommends we drink 6 to 8 cups or glasses which is around 1.5 litres of fluid a day, so how can we make sure we’re sticking as close to that as we can?
Lead Editor Emma is a huge lover of tea, and tends to reach for a warm mug of herbal over a glass of water. Social Media Manager Lois has recently invested in a huge Stanley-style bottle to keep on her desk in an effort to stay topped up. However, the real cactus in the office is Senior Partnerships Manager Harriet, who has been known to make it all the way until lunch without touching a drop.
So, when we were kindly given the opportunity to try Sipgood, a simple way to make water taste better without sugar or additives, we all jumped at the chance.
The natural infusions we’re loving, for better tasting water
Sipgood is a fab brand with a mission to make water less boring. Their Infusion Drops are made with real fruit and plant extracts, and let you turn your water into a tasty and healthy soft drink with electrolytes and added vitamins.
You can learn more about their story here if you’re curious, and find out how they donate 500 ml of drinking water for every Infusion Drop sold.
Now, over to Harriet for the tricks that helped her finally get to her 2-litre goal, plus her Sipgood mini-review and expert recommendations from their team.
How to make water taste better – 5 tried and tested hacks
I’ve always found it really hard to drink plain water because I don’t enjoy the taste, and I often don’t feel the urge to drink it.
Fast forward to 2025, and I’m mum to two small girls. I stay pretty active and I love running, but I can easily get to lunchtime without having had any water – just coffee instead!
This is why one of my resolutions this year was to start experimenting with small tweaks to make water taste better, and help me work towards my 2-litre goal.
Here are some of the tricks that worked for me.

1. Filter your tap water
Tap water in the UK is safe to drink, but depending on where you live, it might taste chalky, metallic, or just a bit flat. So when it comes to how to make tap water taste better, a filter could make a huge difference.
Whether you choose a jug, an in-bottle filter, or a system that attaches to your tap (I’ve got a jug at home myself), filtered water may taste smoother and fresher, and is much easier to drink in larger amounts.
2. Use a bottle with a straw
It sounds a bit silly, but I always thought my issue was purely with the water itself, but switching to a tall glass or a sleek bottle with a metal or glass straw means I end up drinking more without even realising it!
Drinking with a straw somehow feels like helps my water taste better too, maybe because I sip smaller amounts at once.
On the go, I always stick to my bottle with straw that fits neatly in my bag. It’s easier to take regular sips, and that consistency is what adds up by the end of the day.
3. Keep it as cold as possible
For some reason, room temperature water just doesn’t tempt me at all. Sticking a bottle in the freezer for a quick chill or even adding ice cubes just makes drinking tastier and more enjoyable for me.
You might be the opposite – some people find that slightly warmer water goes down faster, and that’s okay! Have a go at experimenting with temperature to find a sweet spot that works for you.
4. Use infusion drops
Here’s where my 2-litre breakthrough really happened. Sipgood’s Infusion Drops let me start adding flavour, without making my water taste too sweet.
Most flavoured waters on the market are absolutely packed with sugar or artificial sweeteners, but Sipgood does it differently.
Each Drop is made from natural fruit flavours, fruit powders, and plant extracts, with added vitamins and electrolytes. They’re sugar-free and use only a small amount of natural sweetener from stevia leaf extract, which is safe for most people, including those with diabetes.

Beyond taste, they also contain benefits for hydration itself. Electrolytes help my body absorb water more effectively, and they also contain 4 essential vitamins for an added little lift!
I’ve been experimenting and adding two of my fave Pear, Ginger & Ginseng Drops into a big litre bottle (that’s their guideline), but it’s completely flexible. You can make it stronger or lighter depending on your preference which is fab.
5. Find extra flavour with fruits
In addition to Sipgood’s real fruit and plant extracts, I like to mix things up. Adding fruit to my glass or bottle is a fun way to elevate each sip.
Lemon and lime are classics, but cucumber, berries, or orange slices work brilliantly too. Herbs like mint or even basil (don’t knock it until you try it) can also give your water a refreshing twist.
I’ve started slicing lemon and cucumber the night before, and leaving them in the fridge to pop into my bottle in between Sipgood Drops.
My hydration notes (& expert tips from team Sipgood)
So, all of these tips should be pretty simple. But if, like me, you’ve got questions about what actually counts as hydration, or whether Infusion Drops count in the same way plain water does, I have good news.
Catching up with experts from Sipgood for a quick breakdown, I learned:
- Tea and coffee – Yes, they count, although caffeine is the watch-out. Moderate caffeine intake doesn’t significantly dehydrate the body, but excessive amounts can have a mild diuretic effect.
- Food – Water-rich foods such as watermelon, soups, and stews also contribute to your hydration.
- Sipgood Natural Infusion Drops – More effective than plain water, with added electrolytes and vitamins that help your body absorb hydration more efficiently.
The Sipgood team also recommend:
- Up to four Drops a day, which neatly supports my 2-litre hydration goal.
- Pregnancy note – avoid the Bliss Coconut, Mango, & Passionflower flavour, as it contains passionflower extract.
And one more thing I love:
- For every drop sold, Sipgood donates water to communities where safe access isn’t guaranteed – making hydration a global mission too, as well as a personal habit.
Best of all, all of this makes me look forward to sipping. When 82% of people say they drink more water with Sipgood, I can see why!

How to drink more water when you don’t like it – My key takeaways
Drinking more water when you just don’t like it starts with finding what works for you. For me, improved taste is what helped me drink more water and reach my intake goal.
I’d always thought I wasn’t being disciplined enough, but really, I just hadn’t found a way to enjoy it. I’ve even reached for Sipgood in the evenings a couple of times, in place of a glass of wine. It just feels like a little treat, without the sugar or inevitable fuzzy head the following morning.
So if you’re anything like me, have a go at filtering, chilling, using bottles with a straw and – most importantly – giving Sipgood Infusion Drops a go, and see what helps the habit stick!
