Ovulation Prediction – How to Detect Ovulation Accurately and Easily
Eloise Edington | 14 Dec 2020
From personal experience, I know that tracking your cycle and predicting ovulation can be really hard and time-consuming. The worry about missing / not detecting that prime ovulation window can be really concerning, especially when every month is so important. We recently did a giveaway with ovulation predictor brand, femSense, to give our readers the opportunity to try their patches, which sync up with an app to take away that stress. It was an insanely popular giveaway, so we’ve asked femSense to tell us more about how their innovative ovulation tracking device does the work for you, easily and accurately. They’re also offering our readers a rather lovely Christmas discount, read on for details.
Over to femSense
Trying to conceive can sometimes take longer than you expected. It’s not unusual and there is no ‘normal’. At femSense we get to hear a lot of individual stories from women who don’t necessarily share with their friends and families, but want to share with other women who are also trying to conceive, because one woman’s story can give another woman hope.
Amongst our stories are women whose cycles were mixed up after fertility treatments, causing them to then be unaware of when they were going to ovulate. We are also sharing stories from women who went through fertility treatment at a fertility clinic and used femSense as an accompaniment to follow their cycle, women who had longer than average cycles and simply didn’t know that they ovulated later than the famous “day 14”, and a lot of women who simply want an easy version of the temperature method!

Leonie’s Story
‘When we didn’t get pregnant within the first few months, we were concerned we might have a problem.’
Tell us a little bit about yourself…
My name is Leonie, I’m 29 years old and I live with my husband and our dog in a small village. My husband and I have been together for over seven years and married for almost four. We were trying to conceive for most of those four years. We are both family-oriented people and always dreamed about having a little family of our own.
What was it like for you when you decided you wanted to have a baby?
At the beginning we were very positive and didn’t really think about whether or not getting pregnant would be difficult. But, when we didn’t get pregnant within the first few months, we were concerned we might have a problem.
Why did you choose femSense?
I had tried several other ovulation tests (both cheap and expensive) and temperature measuring methods and found out that my cycle is a bit irregular. Last year I heard about femSense in a fertility blog and figured it was worth a try.
How long did you use femSense before getting pregnant and how easy did you find it to use?
I actually only used femSense for one cycle because I got pregnant first go. It was straightforward and easy to use, even though I had actually expected it to be more complicated. I have eczema and was concerned I might get a rash but that wasn’t a problem either.
How did you feel when you found out you were pregnant?
I knew about my cycle beforehand because we had been trying for four years. I got my first ever positive pregnancy test in 2018 but, unfortunately, we lost our baby in the 24th week, due to a serious genetic defect. I was of course overjoyed this time too, but I was also terrified about baby loss. At the beginning of the pregnancy, I was afraid every day that something would go wrong or something would be wrong with my baby. I found out I was pregnant on 23rd of December, so it was an early Christmas present.
From your personal experience, what advice would you give other couples trying to get pregnant?
Don’t give up! Even if it doesn’t happen straight away. And most importantly – you are in this together, support each other. Try to find out what is causing the delay, whether using temperature tests or ovulation predictor kits like femSense. This will help you to understand whether your cycle is regular. If after some time nothing has happened, maybe consult a doctor or fertility specialist at a fertility clinic.

Claudia’s Story
‘We were enthusiastic and positive. We never considered that it might not be easy.’
Tell us a little bit about yourself…
Hi, I am Claudia, I’m 36 years old and I have been in a relationship with my boyfriend for almost five years. I am sporty and like to be outside in the fresh air with my two dogs. Walks in the forest are the best form of relaxation for me! I am a bundle of energy and need to be constantly active to tire myself out.
What was it like for you when you decided you wanted to have a baby?
We were enthusiastic and positive. We never considered that it might not be easy. In the first year you don’t give it much thought if it’s taking longer than you expected, but then the questions start – What’s wrong? Why isn’t it happening for us?
Why did you think femSense could help?
I have endometriosis and one fallopian tube which doesn’t work properly but, even after four unsuccessful rounds of IVF, I never gave up the hope that we would get pregnant naturally. When a friend of mine recommended femSense I decided to give it a try. Not only do I not ovulate regularly, I don’t feel it either. femSense was perfect for me.
How long did you use femSense before getting pregnant and how easy did you find it to use?
I used three patches but took one month off in between. The system is really simple and easy to use.
Did you know about your cycle and ovulation prediction beforehand, and how important the timing is when trying to get pregnant?
When you are actively trying to get pregnant you join forums and gather information. I had never thought much about it in the past. The right timing is of course essential – otherwise it doesn’t work 😉
How did you feel when you found out you were pregnant?
Indescribable! Overjoyed!
From your personal experience, what advice would you give other couples trying to conceive?
Never give up hope and don’t believe everything the doctors tell you. Several gynaecologists recommended artificial insemination (IUI) for us, they said we would never get pregnant naturally. And, lo and behold, our 5% chance was enough.

Melanie‘s story
‘What should have been romantic was becoming stressful. I was really down.’
Tell us a little bit about yourself…
My name is Melanie, I’m 34 years old and I live with my boyfriend just outside Liverpool. I am a nurse and my boyfriend is a policeman. We both work shifts, which we knew might make getting pregnant a bit more complicated than normal.
Congratulations on the pregnancy! Thank you for telling your personal story
Thank you. I still have to pinch myself sometimes that it is real. I am really very happy. I wouldn’t usually talk about something so personal but, having been in touch with you guys at femSense so often (via social media and the support team), I almost feel I know you! You were so helpful that I really want to tell other women that femSense really works.
Had you been planning a family for a while?
I wouldn’t say we had been planning it for long. We both just kind of knew we wanted to start a family eventually. Then, when two couples we are good friends with announced their pregnancies last year, we realised it was time.
How long did it take you to get pregnant?
It took seven months. I know that might not sound very long, but to me it felt like forever. To begin with, we just decided to “make a baby”. I have a fairly regular cycle and decided to monitor my ovulation using the temperature method and cervix slime observation. I’m a nurse, so I thought that would be easy. It wasn’t!! With both of us working shifts, timing became really important, but I soon realised that working shifts also made the temperature method practically impossible for me. I rarely get up at the same time twice a week, never mind every day, and charting was so time consuming. What should have been romantic was becoming stressful. I was really down.
How did femSense help?
After four months, I finally found femSense – thank goodness! I was doing some internet research on ovulation predictor kits and came across femSense. The fact that femSense measures continuously and basically does all the hard work of charting and analysing for you, made it interesting. Then, when I read that it is suitable for people with irregular sleeping patterns, the decision was made. I ordered a packet of six and got pregnant with the third patch.
I had contacted femSense on Instagram with a few questions, which were answered immediately and, when I had a WIFI problem, I contacted the support desk and they were really helpful too. I felt that the whole team were behind me. The personal message on Instagram when I posted the photo of my positive pregnancy test confirmed to me that femSense was there to support me. Thank you. I will be giving my remaining patches to my friend as part of her birthday present and with a bit of luck we will be pregnant together.
Have you got any advice you would share with other women who are ready to conceive?
Yes! Don’t waste months like I did. Order your femSense patches now and save yourself the hassle and stress of trying to figure out the best days to get pregnant. It doesn’t have to be difficult.
